Mutur East Grama Sevakar shot dead
Gunmen shot dead the Tamil Grama Sevakar for Mutur East in Trincomalee on Thursday, 21 September.
Paranjothy Muttukumar, 52, is the Grama Sevakar for the Kaddaiparichchaan GS area in Trincomalee. He was called out from his home and when Paranjothy Muttukumar opened the door a gunman tried to shoot him and Paranjothy Muttukumar stopped him by restricting the gunmen’s hand. Paranjothy Muttukumar then pushed the gunman inside the house shut the door and tried to run outside. Other gunmen standing outside then shot and killed him. In recent times, Paranjothy Muttukumar has protested the denial of homes to the people of Mutur East and Sampur which the Sri Lankan Government confiscated from the people through gazette notice. On the same issue Paranjothy Muttukumar has given many interviews to the media, where he had said that the problems of the people can only be resolved by resettling them in their own land. People near him are of no doubt that the killers were members of the Sri Lankan Armed forces. The Sri Lanka Government in its now well established and familiar pattern has posted the news about the killing by its own forces in their websites and claimed that it was carried out by the LTTE.
