The boats captured by SLA in Alampil, Chemmalai belongs to local Fishermen
The boats of LTTE that the SLA claimed recently to have captured belongs to the local fishermen said the president of the Mullaithivu Fishermen’s Consortium, Gunasingarasa.
The boats were gathered in one place by the fishermen following the heavy floods during end of November. More than 250 boats were kept in one location for safety from the floods. Most of these boats were donated to the fishermen by the various local and international agencies after the 2004 tsunami. The fishermen who were forced out their homes by shelling have also been deprived of their boats further weakening their chances of making a living as IDPs. Gunasingarasa says that the SLA must return the boats that belong to the fishermen.
