Thai Ambassador Meets with Tamilselvan

H.E. Jerm Tivayanond, Thai ambassador to Sri Lanka, led a delegation which met with Mr. S. P. Tamilselvan, head of the political wing of the LTTE, earlier today at Killinochi. The delegation included Mr. Pradap Pibulsongram, Director General - Department of Technical and Assistance Cooperation, of the Forein Affairs Ministry of Thailand. Mr. Pibulsongram explained at length about the various rehabilitation and reconstruction activities that the Thai government is keen to undertake.

Following the meeting the Thai ambassador briefed the press. "We hope that the situation will move very soon, as our Prime Minister said two days ago, Thailand is ready to lend our facility not only for the venue, we would like to lend more facilities and take part in the peace process. Today, we have come to announce the details of the programs of assistance that we plan to do this year and next year. Our programs will be implemented from the beginning of next month with the help of the two parties. The programs we propose to implement in the north and east are; giving training to the de-miners in Vanni, manufacturing artificial limbs for the war injured and rural development and vocational training for the youth" he said.

After the meeting the Thai delegation visited the TRO office in Killinochi before returning to Colombo. Further visit, it is expected that ten technical officers from Thailand will train upto 40 de-miners of the Humanitarian Demining Unit in Killinochi at the end of this month.
