Eighteen civilians including eleven children killed in a claymore attack on a school bus

Eighteen people including twelve children traveling in a public bus were killed and a further 17 children, teachers, driver and other passengers were injured in a claymore attack on a bus in Mannar district by the Deep Penetration Unit of the Sri Lanka military at 2.30pm today.

Most of the passengers in the bus were either school children or teachers returning from a sporting event back to their home in the Mannar district. Among those injured were three teachers and the school principal. One of the injured is a Catholic nun.

The attack took place one Kilometer from the famous Madhu shrine on the Madhu Palampiddy road.

The injured and the dead were taken to the Kilinochchi, Pallamadhu and the Mulankavil hospitals.
