
Japanese envoy in Kilinochchi
LTTE explores alternatives to deliver Humanitarian Assistance in the NorthEast, Mr.Tamilselvan, the Political Wing Leader told to Japanese Ambassador
In an official meeting held at the LTTE Peace Secretariat in Klinochchi Mr. Akio Suda the new Ambassador for Japan in Sri Lanka had discussions with Mr. Tamilselvan, Head of the LTTE Political Wing today, 22nd December 2003.
The Ambassador and his team arrived in Kilinochchi by an SLAF helicopter around 10.30am. Associated with the Ambassador was Mr. Kiichiro Iwase, third secretary of the Ambassador. Discussions centered on the current political situation and the assistance done by Japan to the people of Wanni through UN agencies and other NGOs. In this meeting, Mr.Tamilselvan said that the LTTE is now exploring other alternatives to deliver the humanitarian assistance to the Tamil speaking people in the NorthEast. The current political crisis in the South should not hinder the reconstruction, resettlement activities in the NorthEast. Mr. Puleedevan, Secretary General of the LTTE Peace Secretariat also participated in the meeting. The Ambassador appreciated the LTTE's commitment to peace and encouraged the political head to continue maintain the ceasefire.
The ambassador visited the proposed Kilinochchi hospital site and the UNHCR office to familiarised himself with the ongoing humanitarian projects in the Wanni.
