
UNICEF Country Head meets with Tamilselvan
Mr.Ted Chaiban, UNICEF’s Country Head met with Mr. S. P. Tamilselvan, Head of the LTTE political wing today 23 December 2004 at the Peace Secretariat in Kilinochchi.
 Matters discussed included the alarming level of malnutrition among school-going children and the deteriorating standard of education due to lack of facilities and unfilled teacher vacancies in many schools and the impact of flood caused by recent heavy rain to the children of displaced families living in welfare centres due to denial of access to their habitats by the occupying military. 
Mr. Tamilselvan explained in detail the work plan envisaged for the year 2005 and the program of strengthening District level committees that would be assigned the special task of interacting with parents and providing necessary assistance in schooling and nutrition. He also dealt with at length the various initiatives taken by the Peace Secretariat, both at the HQ and district levels. Associated with Mr.Tamilselvan in the meeting were the Secretary General of the Peace Secretariat Mr.S.Puleedevan, Deputy Head of the Political Wing Mr.S.Thangan, Member of the Special Committee on children Mr. Bharani and Mr.Thiagarajah, the INGO coordinator.
