Tamil National Alliance Meets Tamilselvan
Members of Parliament representing the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) met Mr. S. P. Tamilselvan, Head of the Political Wing at the LTTE Peace Secretariat in Kilinochchi on Tuesday the 09th December, 2003.
The meeting commenced at 11.00am and lasted for more than two hours. The senior parliamentarians among those attended include R. Sampanthan, A. Vinayagamoorthy and Joseph Pararajasingham.
The present political situation in the country, the political changes in the south since the LTTE presented their proposal for an Interim Self Governing Authority and other important matters including the role of the international community in the peace process were discussed in this meeting.
Mr. Sampanthan in his media briefing said, "The LTTE is ever prepared to go forward with the peace process. The political turmoil in the south has retarded the progress. This state of affairs should not continue. We shall jointly and in union urge the international community to press upon the two main political parties to pursue with their peace efforts in good faith.
We always wish to keep up our friendship and goodwill with India and constantly promote our relations with them and at the same time we fervently request them to refrain from expressing themselves as if they are encouraging and supporting the communal elements in the south. We have also to point out to India that this would lead to a situation that would be detrimental to our interests and damage our legitimate claims".
Further he added, "As far as the LTTE and the Tamil National Alliance are concerned we strongly believe in safeguarding the rights of the Muslims and have no difference of opinion with regard to fulfilling their aspirations. And the LTTE have scheduled for very early meeting with them."
