Swiss representatives visit Kilinochchi
Swiss ambassador in Sri Lanka Mr. Bernadino Regazzoni, representatives of Swiss NGOs and Swiss broadcasting and electronic media visited Kilinochchi and met Kilinochchi District Government Agent Mr. Rasanayagam today the 12th February 2004. They discussed about the prevailing conditions in respect of resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced people. Mr. Rasanayagam explained to them the drawback in effecting any progress in resettling and said they were still not provided with the basic amenities essential for resettlement and even the demining was not complete. The ambassador and the Swiss NGO representatives took note of the urgent requirements for resettlement and the immediate humanitarian needs. Later they visited the Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation and discussed the problems confronting the TRO in their rehabilitation work and the urgent needs for relief work for people to regain normal living.
 In the afternoon the Swiss ambassador and the accompanying Swiss representatives met the members of the Sub Committee on Gender Issues headed by Ms. Thamilini, Head of the Women Political Wing. The Sub Committee had not been active and did not meet since the peace negotiation did not resume.
