Government and Opposition jointly vote in support of budget allocation for Defense Ministry
The two main political parties of Sri Lanka jointly supporting the budget allocation for the Defense Ministry shows the communal forces of the Sinhala majority have joined together against the Tamils", said TNA parliamentarian Mavai Senathirajah.
"These two parties have jointly voted in favor the Defense Ministry that is likely to create condition favorable to wage war. Had these very same parties joined hands to resolve the ethnic conflict a settlement could have been possible long ago? These two parties having come to terms on a major issue such as the ethnic question and jointly voted for the defense reveals a questionable point", he said. The Tamils protesting against the security forces is of no avail. It is the Sinhala communalism that is instrumental for the pressure of the forces and this fact is now conspicuous in the light of the stand taken by the two major Sinhala parties.
Selvam Adaikalanathan said that these main political parties of Sri Lanka jointly acting have again aroused fears in the minds of the Tamils. At this juncture parliamentarians of the up country and NorthEast have to mobilize their strength in solidarity and rally against the forces of the Sinhala majority communalism.
