
Uyilankulam check point closed
Uyilankulam check point was closed indefinitely from 1st September after the ICRC withdrew from Uyilankulam check point fearing the safety of their staff.
Armed Forces of the Government of Sri Lanka fired artillery shells when the ICRC was manning the checkpoint. At that time ICRC had moved into the LTTE side of the FDL to collect the body of one SLA soldier, SLA fired artillery shells fell on both sides of the LTTE FDL and representatives of the ICRC sought safety in LTTE bunkers. Following this incident the ICRC withdrew from manning this checkpoint indefinitely.
