Sri Lankan military occupy school’s perimeter
Students of the Eluthumadduval Government Tamil Mixed School in Jaffna have to face the intimidating presence of the Sri Lankan military as they arrive to school everyday. The school previously stopped functioning because of Sri Lankan military operation, but has now begun regular schooling.
The military continues to surround the school grounds and even enter the school’s compound, creating a distressing environment for children. There are a number of children who have not attended school because of the military presence. The school administration requested that the military must take immediate action to remove their army from the area. Until their request has been addressed, children must continue to cope with learning in an environment that is detrimental to their education.
