CCBOs warn people’s struggle if military is not disciplined
The CCBOs (Consortium Civilian Based Organizations) in Jaffna
warned that people will take the struggle in their own hands
if the atrocities and ceasefire violations by the military
is not brought to an end. CCBOs called for a day of mourning
on Monday to mark the death of Santharuban who was killed by
the military and to protest the military atrocities. The excerpts from the
statement issued by the CCBOs is as follows:
“CCBOs strongly condemns the killing of one worker and the
injuring of another by military gunfire. The military is not only roaming in places where large
number of people are gathering, they are also carrying
weapons. This is an act of threat to the people. Even since the ceasefire agreement the list of people killed
by military vehicles, shot and killed by military gunfire
and injured by military gunfire keeps growing. Government
has not taken any action to stop these atrocities by the
military. The ceasefire violations by the military are therefore
continuing unabated. We like to point out here that if the
government fails to bring an end to this people will take up
the struggle to evict the military”. CCBOs in its call for a day of mourning has asked the
Cooperative societies, private transport outfits, government
offices, educational institutions, universities, schools,
commercial outlets, and all other organizations and its
employees, managers and students to cooperate in marking the
day of mourning. CCBOs also called on everyone to fly black flags to pay
tribute to Santharuban killed by the military and also
attend the final meeting to be held in his memory. CCBOs statement conveyed its condolences to the family of
Santharuban”.
