
Abductions increase by paramilitary group in Batticaloa
A paramilitary group operating under the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) abducted three young men at gunpoint in the area of Kaluvankeni, Eravoor on Saturday evening between 5:30 and 7:45 p.m. The men were forced into a white van and then taken away.
Relatives of the abducted men filed a report at the Eravoor police station and no actions have been taken to investigate the incident and gave no information for the motive behind this indicent. The men kidnapped by the paramilitary group were Uthayan Selvaraja (25), Subramaniyam Kanapathipillai (32) and S. Leethan (31). Residents in this area are fearful of more abductions taking place that are similar to this incident. Within the last week, five young civilians have been reported abducted by paramilitary groups in Batticaloa.
