CWC Leader’s meeting with Tamilselvan
Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) Leader Mr.Arumugan Thondaman visited Kilinochchi today Saturday 17 December 2005 and had a meeting with the Head of the LTTE Political Division Mr.S.P.Tamilselvan at the Peace Secretariat.
Briefing the press after the meeting that lasted for about an hour, Mr.Tamilselvan said that the plantation leader had in-depth discussions with him on a common programme of work related to the political problems the Tamil people face, wherever they live. “It was a constructive meeting wherein we had in-depth discussions on the current political situation and the common strategy that has to be adopted by the Tamil political leaders in taking forward the Tamil National problem” said Mr.Tamilselvan. Striking a positive note, Mr.Tamilselvan continued that the plantation leader was very accommodative and open in the discussions that focussed on the political status of the Tamil people. Responding to the media on the government’s offer to re-start talks, Mr.Tamilselvan said that the LTTE Peace Secretariat would be writing to its counterpart in Colombo on the LTTE position vis-a-vis the location. “There is no change in our position with regard to the venue for talks and we stand by the Norwegian facilitator’s original suggestion that the talks on effective implementation of the CFA takes place in Oslo and the primary task is to ensure meaningful discussions are made to ensure effective implementation of the CFA with a view to arrest the accelerating trend of violence in the military occupied areas” commented Mr.Tamilselvan. Replying a question from the media on the incident in which an SLAF helicopter was fired at in Arugam Bay, Mr.Tamilselvan said that the LTTE rejects the press speculation and the government allegation and continued that the incident appears to be stage-managed by the forces to turn the international community and specifically Italy against the LTTE, for Italy was targeted with cynical accusations by the extremist elements in the south when it delivered humanitarian aid direct to tsunami victims in Mullaittivu.
