TNA MPs meets foreign diplomats
TNA members of parliament met the ambassadors of Germany and Switzerland, separately on Thursday in Colombo to explain them the apathetic approach of the Sinhala leaders to resolve the country’s ethnic problem. In their continuing efforts along this line the TNA MPs will meet the Japanese ambassador soon.
The TNA delegation was lead by its leader Mr Sampanthan and included Mr Joseph Pararajasingam, Mr Gajendrakumar
Ponnambalam, Mr Selvam Adaikalanathan, Mr Suresh
Premachandran and Ms Pathmini Sithamparanathan. The
delegation highlighted the following points to the Ambassadors. - The political situation in the country is worsening.
Three years and four months have passed since the
ceasefire agreement was signed. But many aspects of the
agreement have not been implemented.
- From 90 to 180 days after signing the agreement home
guards and all other armed groups must be disarmed. But this
has not happened.
- Peace talks are stalled.
- The proposal put forward by the LTTE for an interim
self-governing authority has not been taken up at all.
- Even the joint mechanism for tsunami relief work was signed
after six months of dragging. Now one month after it was
signed there is no further progress on it. Using the high
court ruling as an excise it is being blocked.
- All efforts by the LTTE to find solutions to these
problems through political means have not been successful.
- Basic reason for all of this is the absence of
accommodation within the Sinhala leadership or its political
system. It is dominated by Sinhala chauvinistic ideals.
- Things have reached such a tight stage because the Sinhala
leadership does not like to do justice to the Tamils.
- It is in this background that Tamils have again arrived at
a situation where they have to find their own solution in
their own manner.
- International community must understand that it is the
Sinhala leadership that has forced the Tamils into a
situation where they have to seek their own solution.
- With the understanding of the just position of the Tamils,
international community must give the needed support to the
actions of the Tamils.
