“Italian Red Cross is doing an exemplary service in post-tsunami Vakarai”

“A friend in need is a friend indeed and in this post-tsunami context, the Tamil people are fully appreciative of and grateful to the people of Italy and their government for the timely manner in which the Italian Red Cross has established a mobile health unit at Vakarai, one of the coastal hamlets in Batticaloa, worst hit by Tsunami” said Mr.S.P.Tamilselvan, Head of the LTTE Political Wing during a visit to Vakarai recently.

After speaking to the personnel manning the mobile health unit and seeing for himself the facilities available for the tsunami displaced people of Vakarai, who were already affected by the two-decade old war and suffering economic deprivation due to lack of development, Mr.Tamilselvan commended the dedicated service rendered by the Italian Red Cross team to the most deserving peasants.

Civilian groups who met the Political Head expressed their sense of appreciation and gratitude for the valuable service rendered, wanted Mr.Tamilselvan to convey their feelings to the Government of Italy and the Italian people. Mr. Tamilselvan also recalled the immediate response of the Italian Government in readily responding to the immediate humanitarian needs of the tsunami affected people in the Mullaittivu and Vadamaradchy East coast by delivering valuable medical aid direct within a couple of days of the impact.
