People from Vavuniya welfare centre complain to HR Commission
People living in the Vavuniya-Poonthodda welfare centre have lodged a complaint with the Sri Lankan Human rights Commission that their basic needs are not being adequately met.
Officers from the Vavuniya Human Rights Commission have visited the welfare centre to observe. They have told the people at the centre that they will place a request with the Government Agent to provide for the basic needs of the people. The officers of the human rights commission will request that water, electricity, and provisions in time be provided to the people. Drinking water is a big problem for the people in these welfare centres. People have told the human rights officers that there is insufficient water at the centre and what is provided by the mobile water tanks are not sufficient. District Government Agent office says that there is draught in Vavuniya at present and water has to be transported from elsewhere.
