SLA re-establishes new military camps in Jaffna Peninsula
The Sri Lankan Army (SLA) is re-establishing military camps in Jaffna Peninsula as they strengthen their defense and security, causing residents to fear for their safety. The ceasefire agreement, signed in 2002, ordered a limited number of SLA military camps to be removed. Currently, SLA forces are reconstructing the removed military camps and also increasing the rigorous patrolling by SLA vehicles.
The SLA is re-constructing military camps near the main roads and junctions in Jaffna town. Tension is growing among residents because of such a strong military presence and constant patrolling of heavily-armed vehicles. This increase in military activity is causing Jaffna residents to question whether or not a war will begin.
