If war is declared on us we will all turn into Tigers and fight
Warns President of Trincomalee People’s Federation
If war is declared on Tamils again the entire people of Tamil nation will turn into Tigers warned Mr.V.Vigneswaran, the President of Peoples Federation of Trincomalee in the speech he delivered at the Tamil Uprising Event in Kilinochchi on Thursday August 1st. In his speech he further said,
“We give this message to the international community through this uprising event. Under no circumstance is the Sri Lanka government prepared to agree on a just solution to the Tamil people. It is in fact preparing to wage another war against the Tamil people. The government and its military did not come to peace talks because they cared for the welfare of the Tamil people. They came because fourteen Tamil Tigers sacrificed themselves to give a severe blow to Sri Lanka by attacking the Katunayake airport on July 24th 2001. They came to peace talks only after their economy was shattered and they came to the realization that LTTE cannot be defeated militarily. We like to say one thing categorically. In 1983, when bodies of Tamils they killed were left half burnt in the streets, the then President Jayawardhana said to the Tamils, “If it is war let it be war and if it is peace let it be peace”. Today we, standing behind our national leader, say to that same Sri Lanka and its people, “If it is war let it be war, if it is peace let it be peace”. It is the people of Sri Lanka and not the Tamil speaking people who must decide if this island should be one country or two countries. If this island must remain as one country then come to a decision immediately. Prepare to find a solution to the problem of Tamil speaking people through peace talks. We say to the international community. During this ceasefire period we have so far lost more than 96 LTTE fighters. We have lost property worth many millions. Please know that there is meaning behind the silence of our leader even after loosing our LTTE political fighters. If a war declared on the Tamil speaking people we the entire people are ready to become LTTE fighters and wage war. The capital of Tamil homeland Trincomalee has been militarised after the Buddha statue affair, which was built overnight to threaten the Tamil people. Military is stationed at every nooks and corners in Trincomalee. If the government fails to remove this military from Trincomalee, the people of Trincomalee will rise against it and chase the military from our land. At that time people’s struggle will break out throughout the Tamil homeland. The people will voice their rights in unison. Trincomalee will be saved. Therefore we say to the Sri Lankan government, the well planned Buddha statue built to threaten the Tamil people and the military brought in after must both be removed. If not the Tamil speaking people will remove them both. We say lastly to the international community that all those countries, which said that they are terrorists, have today
acknowledged that the LTTE and its leader are a national movement and a national leader. So we call upon the international community to force the government to come to talks with the LTTE to find a solution.
