Blaming the LTTE for the helicopter attack is unfounded - S P Tamilselvan condemns
At the press conference given by S P Tamilselvan in Kilinochchi on Saturday, in response to a question raised by a reporter regarding the attack on the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) helicopter from Amparai, he stated, “There is absolutely no connection between the LTTE and the ground-attack on the SLA helicopter that was on its way to pick up the Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy.”
“We consider this a deliberate plot to bring disrepute to the LTTE at the international level. We have lodged a complaint with SLMM about this unfounded accusation by the Sri Lankan government.” “The Sri Lankan government is undertaking activities at the international level, especially in the European countries, to upset the strengthening relationship between the Tamil community and these foreign states. We learn that there are activities being undertaken by the government to destroy the growing support in Europe for our movement and for the peace efforts.” “This attack on the helicopter has taken place when it was on its way to pick up the Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy. In the first instance, we were not even informed about this government helicopter flying over areas under our control.” “The Amparai District LTTE Military Chief and the Administrative Division of the LTTE have confirmed to us that such an attack did not take place from the areas under our control.”
