LTTE political wing leader S.P.Tamilselvan meets TNA parliamentary group

LTTE political wing leader S.P.Tamilselvan met TNA parliamentary group in Kilinochchi on Thurday 10 Nov, 2005. The meeting that lasted three hours explored in depth implications of the different positions that could be adopted by the Tamils in Northeast and the Tamil speaking people through out the island in the upcoming presidential elections.

The discussion also covered the issues of how the consecutive governments of the two Sinhala parties dealt with the Tamil issue and how they attempted to suppress Tamil dissent with military power. Also examined was the involvement of the various governments to inflame pogroms against Tamils. The conduct of the two governments of the two main parties to bring peace, during the three and a half years of ceasefire, was also put under the microscope.

After examining all the issues surrounding the Tamil people’s problems they came to the following conclusion.

“The presidential elections will not bring about an acceptable solution to the Tamil national question.

We cannot easily forget our experiences at the hands of the Sri Lankan military or the long period of political experiences faced by the Tamils. Especially we cannot forget the experiences of the last three and a half years.

When we view the election with these in mind we are sure that Tamils do not need to care about the coming election. Our clear position is that Tamils will gain nothing by taking an interest in the election.

The parties of both candidates have been in government during the ceasefire period. When we consider the incidents that took place during their period in the government we are forced into a situation of having no confidence in either of the candidates.

This is our definitive decision. This is also our people’s decision. Our people know everything. People living in the Northeast know the situation very well. There is no doubt that they will take the correct decision.

We will not stop the Tamil people from voting. We have no intention of taking away the democratic rights of the Tamil people. But we are confident that Tamil people, based on their own experiences, will not pay any attention to this election” said the TNA member of parliament Mr.Sampanthan after the meeting.
