New Buddha statues in Trincomalee and Pothuvil
- Condemnation by Amparai Mosque Federation Amparai district Mosque Federation severely condemned the installation of Buddha statues in Trincomalee and Pothuvil area.
The Federation states that, ‘in the name of the Budddha who teaches ahimsa and love, some chauvinistic elements are trying to provoke the situation’ and they demanded ‘the authorities to take appropriate measures to remove the unlawfully installed statues.’ Following is the text of the statement about the incident released on behalf of Amparai Mosque federation by moulavi A.C.A.M Puhari. “Some bad elements try to disrupt the prevailing peaceful environment by provoking ethnic violence among the divided societies. With the aim to provoke ethic violence and tension new Buddha statues were installed in Trincomalee and Pothuvil. In the name of the Budddha who teaches ahimsa and love, some chauvinistic elements are trying to provoke the situation. Academics and intellectuals should realize the motive behind the recent installation of controversial Buddha statues overnight. Disobeying the court verdict is a serious violation of the law and order of the island. We, Amparai district Mosque federation, reiterate that the authorities should take appropriate measures to remove the unlawfully installed statues.
