“Escalating military violence against civilians gives us serious concern”
-Tamilselvan-
“Recent death of a school girl knocked down by the SL military and the demise of a civilian by military shooting in Jaffna gives us serious concern” said Mr. S. P. Tamilselvan in the meeting with the Norwegian Ambassador Mr. Hans Brattskar in Kilinochchi today 05th February 2005.
Referring to the shooting in Amparai of 3 female unarmed political cadres who are in critical condition, Mr. Tamilselvan reiterated the necessity for the facilitators to prevail upon the government as one party to the CFA in ensuring that the activities of the armed groups are brought to an end in accordance with the relevant CFA article 1.8. Discussions also centred round the formation of a common structure to address the humanitarian needs of the Tsunami affected areas. The Norwegian Ambassador expressed his concern to the peace process without peace talks and emphasized that the parties should take cognisance of Tsunami devastation while at the same time not overlooking the war affected people in the NorthEast who have not been benefited in anyway in the form of peace dividend save the silencing of guns in the battle front.
