LTTE Political Wing leader meets TNA parliamentarians
Leader of the LTTE Political Wing, Mr S.P. Tamilselvan, met the Tamil National Alliance Members of Parliament at the LTTE Peace Secretariat in Kilinochchi today, 17th July 2005. Also at the discussions were Secretary General of the Peace Secretariat, Mr Puleedevan, Deputy Leader of the Political Wing, Mr S Thangan, and Heads of the District Political offices.
At a press conference following the meeting, Mr Tamilselvan said that today’s meeting was part of the regular meetings they have with TNA parliamentarians. He added that today’s meeting is important because of the serious ground situation. He said that the TNA MPs have all undertaken the task of informing the international community about the situation to which Tamils have been pushed into. TNA will work with the LTTE in this regard to also explain about future developments. Responding to a question about P-TOMS and the high court ruling he said that Sinhala chauvinism has used various means of blocking benefits reaching Tamil people. As a last resort they are using the courts to justify their actions to deny Tamils humanitarian aid. He added that P-TOMS is a minor set up to deliver humanitarian aid to the people affected by a huge natural disaster. The Sri Lankan court has blocked it. This is neither surprising nor is this the first time the Sri Lankan courts has denied justice to Tamils. Answering to a question about relief for the people affected by tsunami he said that they are not concerned any more about the P-TOMS which the south is using as a base to stage a drama. He said that they will be putting greater effort into informing the international community about the ground reality and request them to make the decision to deliver aid directly to them. Speaking about the situation in the east he said that the shadow war carried out by the intelligence wing of the military is being intensified and that the murder of LTTE cadres in Trincomalee was carried out with the full protection of the military. He added that LTTE has asked all its cadres in the east to move to areas in their control. Commenting on the two week deadline requested by the LTTE for safe travel of its cadres in military controlled areas he said that LTTE has reinforced their earlier stated position and if the military fails to give protection LTTE cadres will have to take steps to protect themselves and it could lead to the breakdown of the ceasefire agreement. Commenting on the peace process he said that LTTE has worked with great dedication for three and a half years in this area. He added that LTTE has lost many senior cadres and civilians during this time and yet it has remained patient. He went on to say that now the movement of LTTE cadres is being seriously blocked and therefore they are forced to move on to the next stage to protect the cadres.
