The Assassination of Kousalyan is to force war on Tamils

The murder of Batticaloa-Amparai political section head Kousalyan is part of a plan of the government to create the environment for the return to war, says civil organizations in Jaffna. Many civil organizations have issued statements strongly condemning the Punalai murder.

The murder of Kousalyan is a planned uncivilized act of the government. It is a covert scheme by the government to return to war. We strongly condemn it. Shock and sorrow has engulfed our people after this tragedy. No amount of explanation by the government about our irreplaceable loss will satisfy us.

This murder has again shown that even the Tamil civilians and LTTE cadres who dedicate themselves to the task of caring for the welfare of the people are not safe under the ceasefire. As a result of this cruel murder we have been forced to realize that we must ensure our own protection. We must not allow repetition of such cruelty again.

Government has put hurdles to the provision of relief aid to the people affected by the tsunami. Now it is pretending to provide aid. We cannot understand why the international community is watching this like an amused spectator. This saddens us.

Tamil people are outraged by this murder of Kousalyan and the team that was on its way from Vanni with a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate the tsunami affected people. We wish to let the government know that if there is a repetition of such incident the government will be forced to look on as war breaks out again.

Consortium of Civil Organizations in Jaffna District

We strongly condemn the Sri Lankan military assisted murders of Batticaloa-Amparai political section head Kousalyan, his cadres, and the former parliamentarian who were on their way from Vanni with a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate the people affected by the tsunami.

This murder has confirmed that the government and its security forces that were putting hurdles to the task of rehabilitating people affected by war is also not hesitant to put hurdles to the task of rehabilitating the tsunami affected people.

This murder demonstrates that under the cover of peace the government is readying to force war on Tamils. This is a challenge that must be faced by the Tamil people who are longing for peace.

Kousalyan was on his way from Killinochchi after extensive discussions with the LTTE leadership. He was taking with him comprehensive plans for the people’s rehabilitation. Tamil people are enraged by this murder of a senior LTTE leader. This murder took place in the government controlled area. Therefore the government must take the full responsibility for it.

This murder has confirmed that Tamils have no protection in this country. The Sinhala security forces can never give protection to the Tamil people because in the past, countless number of Tamil people have been arrested, tortured and murdered by the same security forces.

Thousands of Tamils have been killed because of their ethnicity. To this list must now be added the planned murders of countless LTTE cadres and Tamil patriots committed after the ceasefire. Tamils will have protection only when the government security forces leave the Tamil homeland.

We wish to let everyone know that Tamils are ready to face the war again if the government continues to commit such murders in cohort with other forces that wants to disrupt the peace in the east. Government must stop such murders. If it fails, war will erupt against the government forces in Northeast.

Jaffna University Students Consortium

The murder of Kousalyan and his team has caused fear among people.

The murder of unarmed LTTE cadres who entered the government controlled areas to care for the tsunami affected people must be condemned outright. The murder of Kousalyan and others were committed when they were returning from Killinochchi after holding discussions with the LTTE leadership about the rehabilitation of tsunami affected people. We consider this murders as an act aimed at destroying welfare of the Tamil areas.

We consider the attack on the LTTE cadres at a time when Tamil people are struggling, following, two decades of war and the destruction caused by the tsunami waves, as an attempt to draw the LTTE into war. We like to emphasize that it is the responsibility of those attempting to mediate to ensure that this situation does not continue.

Jaffna District Development and Welfare Society

We pay homage to Kousalyan, Batticaloa-Amparai political division head, the three LTTE cadres, and one civilian who were murdered. We send our condolences to their families. We condemn all groups that assisted in the murders of the five people. This is not the first time that such tragic murders have been committed in the government controlled areas. Many similar murders have been committed in the three years since the ceasefire agreement was signed.

World knows that the groups behind these murders are the Sri Lankan government and some quisling Tamil groups. We can assume that the military also assisted in these murders because they have taken place in government controlled areas. We therefore condemn the Sri Lankan government and all the groups that are assisting it. We call upon the international mediators and the SLMM to take actions to stop repetition of these incidents.

We are forced to think whether the government is trying to restart the war through such murders. The security forces know about everything that goes through Omanthai. In addition the incident occurred in government controlled areas. Therefore government and the security forces must accept responsibility. If the government or the Tamil quislings assisting it think that they can oppress the Tamils or the LTTE through such murders, there is no doubt that war will break out.

National Uprising Society – Karainagar

Batticaloa-Amparai political division head Kousalyan, three LTTE cadres and a civilian representative were returning from a meeting to discuss the rehabilitation of people’s lives destroyed by the tsunami. While they were returning to carry out the plans worked out at the meeting for Batticaloa-Amparai people they were murdered by traitors who have sold their souls to the Sinhala government. We strongly condemn this heinous act.

Tamil National Awareness Society

The murder of Lt Col Kousalyan and the LTTE cadres accompanying him must be condemned. It is a lowly act of the government. The attack has taken place when they were returning from Vanni after discussing rehabilitation plans for the tsunami affected people. Those killed were not only unarmed they were in the government controlled areas.

Such attacks are continuing take place in the east. These attacks are part of a deceitful scheme by the government carried out under the cover of peace.

A planned attack like this is inhumane at a time when LTTE is working to bring normalcy to the people’s lives that were destroyed by the natures fury,.

This attack is definitely intended to create outrage among Tamils to restart the war. The government and the security forces that are unable to face the LTTE militarily is waging a covert war in many different ways to destroy the LTTE and the Tamils using a false peace platform.

The government and the security forces are using the eastern district as the stage for these activities. The military that has taken on the cover of Karuna faction is conducting these activities. We are deeply distressed by this deceitful situation.

The attacks on unarmed LTTE cadres under the cover of Karuna faction must be stopped immediately.
