
Massive Protest by a crowd of 8000 against the government
A huge crowd took part in the protest march in Puthukkudiyiruppu yesterday demanding the government to handover the interim administration to LTTE.
Protesters who started at 9.00 am from many locations arrived at the Puthukkudiyiruppu junction. Crowds gathered, in front of the Iyan temple in Oddusuddan road, in front of the district office in Maththalan road, in front of the Puthukkudiyiruppu hospital in Mullaitivu road, and in Thurga road on the Paranthan road. They then converged to Puthukkudiyiruppu junction. There a meeting was held condemning the government. Secretary of the collective of civilian based organizations in the Mullaitivu district, Mr.Vedavanam, parliamentarian for Vanni district Mr.S.Kanagaratnam and many others spoke at the meeting. A memorandum for the head of SLMM was submitted to parliamentarian S.Kanagaratnam. Nine organizations including, collective of civilian based organizations, consortium of fishermen societies, consortium of NGOs, mother’s front, student collective, and teachers association submitted memorandums. About 8000 people took part in this protest march. The crowd was shouting slogans and carrying banners against the government actions and the military violations.
