Two LTTE members and two civilians killed in Uppuveli
Two LTTE members and two civilians were killed by
unidentified persons who opened fire at a place where the
cadres were staying.
At 10:50 am on Sunday seven persons in military uniform
drove in a white vehicle to the building in an agriculture
farm in Selvanayakapuram in Trincomalee where the LTTE members were staying. They threw grenades and started shooting. Two LTTE members Dikkan and Kumaran master and two civilians were killed in the shooting.
One of the civilian who was killed is Koneswaran Muththiah.
Other civilian who died in the shooting has not been
identified yet. Selvakumar who was standing 100 metres away was also shot by
the attackers and he was injured in his leg. He managed to
escape by running away. Reports say that Sri Lankan security forces who were on duty
in the area vacated the place just before the attack. Sri Lankan military has a road block near the location of
the incident and it has been checking vehicles passing by.
An elderly onlooker who does not want to be identified said
that the white vehicle with the gunmen was stopped at this
military checkpoint. However, when the gunmen said something
the vehicle was allowed to proceed immediately. Angry people are demanding the military to vacate the area.
They are saying that there is no need for military presence
in their area. Police can carry out the investigations.
People are saying that such incidents have increased only
after large number of security personnel has been brought
into the area. When the police suggested that the attack was by the Karuna
group angry people asked how they managed to get into the
area under their control.
