LTTE convoy ambushed in WelikandaAn LTTE convoy which was on its way from Omanthai to Batticaloa, was ambushed with land mine at Welikanda around 2.50pm today 26th June 2005.
The convoy carried members of the Political Wing including Amparai Political Head of the Liberation Tigers, Mr. Kuyilinpan and Batticaloa Women Political Wing Head, Ms. Kuveni with the escort of Sri Lankan Army and facilitated by SLMM. The vehicle narrowly escaped and one member was injured in this attack. The LTTE leadership has cancelled a transport with the SLA escort earlier this month after receiving reports of possible attacks on LTTE convoy.
