Tamil National Leader, V Prabhaharan, pays homage to slain Mamanithar

Tamil National Leader, V Prabhaharan, paid homage to slain Mamanithar Pararajasingam on Tuesday in Kilinochchi.

The body of Mamanithar Pararajasingam accompanied by his two sons was received by members of the LTTE Peace Secretariat lead by its Secretary General, Pulidevan, and members of North East Secretariat On Human Rights (NESOHR) lead by its Chairperson, Fr M X Karunaratnam at the Puliyankulam border checking at 3.50 pm on Tuesday.

Prior to this people in Vavuniya paid their last respect to Mamanithar Pararajasingam at Muthaiah hall in Vavuniya town.

Mamanithar’s body and its entourage traveled from Batticaloa with the protection of SLMM. Following a memorial ceremony at the Puliyankulam border, for the staff working at the Puliyankulam border check, Mamanithar’s body was taken in a decorated cart in a motorcade to Kilinochchi.

Along the way people waited for long hours with flowers to pay their respect. It was a touching scene to see the poor people of Vanni mourning his loss, endorsing the fact that he was a man of the poor.

Mamanithar’s body was placed at Kanagarayankulam and Mankulam for viewing. Hundreds of people turned up to respect his with flowers and tears.

The entourage reached Kilinocchi at 1.00 pm and his body was placed in a hall for viewing. Tamil National Leader arrived to pay his homage with flower garland and console Mamanithar’s two sons.

On Wednesday morning, Mamanithar’s body was taken to the Kilinochchi cultural hall where a memorial ceremony was held attended by thousands of people. The ceremony was presided by the Chairperson of NESOHR, Fr M X Karunaratnam. LTTE Political Wing Leader, S P Tamilselvan, in his speech paying homage to the Mamanithar, was clearly moved by the loss. Members of TNA, leader of Upcountry People’s Front, P Chandrasekaran, and member of Ceylon Workers Congress, M Sivalingam, and leader of Western Province People’s, Mano Ganeshan also spoke at the memorial ceremony.

Mamanithar’s body was then placed in the NESOHR office where he has visited so often. A memorial service by the Catholic priests in Kilinochchi was held. The motorcade then left for Mullaitivu to allow the people of the region to pay their last respect.

At all memorial ceremonies a constant theme in all the speeches delivered in his memory was his long uninterrupted courageous voice for the human rights of Tamil people that spanned almost two decades. Many also spoke of the Sri Lankan government’s deliberate provocation of the Tamils by committing this murder. His son in his talk at Kilinochchi talked of his father as his best friend.

Around 4.30 pm the motorcade left Mullaitivu on the return journey Batticaloa where his funeral is to take place.
