Time for establishing our self-determination is near - Jaffna, Thenmaradchi civilian based organisat

We cannot continue to deceive ourselves that we can achieve our self-determination through peace talks. Time is near for us to set up our own self-determination by gathering our support together.

Jaffna, Thenmaradchi civilian based organization (CBO) in a statement released to call the people of the region to gather in support for the Pongu Thamil event on 30th of this month further said,

"Sinhala nation is repeatedly demonstrating that it is not prepared to grant the rights of the Tamils. Their rejections, beginning with the agreements made with moderates like S J V Chelvanayagam up to the interim self governing authority and the P TOMS have shown that they are not prepared to grant any rights through peace talks. The Presidential elections have becomes that we more important to the Sinhala leaders than the burning ethnic problem.

Instead of attempting to resolve the issues facing the Tamils who are languishing as refugees, these leaders are putting efforts together to create more documents to oppress the Tamils. The ceasefire agreement signed to create normalcy in the lives of people and through it to gradually move towards a permanent peace is constantly and progressively weakened by the government and the military.

No improvements have come about in the lives of the Tamils. Civilians and LTTE members were killed during this period. Well planned schemes are being implemented to weaken the strength of the Tamil people's struggle.

In this context we should not continue to deceive ourselves about peace talks. Time is near for us to come together to set up our sovereignty and our self-determination.

Time is ripe for us to reach our goal. We can get there only by asking the international community to recognize our defacto-government functioning in our homeland. It is through this that we can repay the martyrs and civilians who dedicated their lives for this goal.

Let us get together on the 30th of this month to do our historic duty. We call upon all employees of government, non-government and business groups, school principals, teachers, students, workers and everyone else to come.
