Government’s oppressive laws will not diminish their strong relationship with Northeast Tamils

-Upcountry peaple's front leader declares-

Upcountry People’s Front leader, P. Chandrasekaran, stated that “no oppressive laws imposed by the government will diminish our strong relationship with Northeast Tamils,” at an election campaign meeting supporting presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe.

In addressing the participants of the meeting, Chandrasekaran said that chauvinism has taken on an all pervasive form in the country. He encouraged minority groups to put forward a clear and definitive plan to ensure the rights of minorities.

Chandrasekaran also urged that minority groups will not beg for cabinet posts or financial assistance and urged all to consider how they will guarantee the rights of the upcountry Tamils.

He said that the JVP party is not interested in the civil war the country, the rights of the Northeast Tamils or the requests of the Muslim population’s basic rights. He stated that the upcountry Tamils, who are denied ninety-nine percent of their rights, is the group that is suffering the most. He expressed his confusion in how Mahinda Rajapaske can support a minority group like the upcountry Tamils after joining hands with the JVP party.

In closing his address, he stated that the Upcountry People’s Front is very focused on how they will achieve rights for the upcountry people and stated that their party will join hands with Northeast Tamils in the struggle to preserve their rights.
