SLA illegally excavates limestone from private property
The Sri Lankan Army (SLA) has been illegally excavating limestone from privately owned property in Maviddapuram. Despite complaints from Tamil civilians and reports from environmental officials, the SLA continues with their activities.
The private property is owned by Tamil civilians living in the area and was once used for cultivation of paddy fields. The area is now inside a high-security zone and civilians including land owners are barred from entering the area. The SLA is using the limestone to build the runways in the Palaly Airport. Environmental officials are expressing their concern over environmental degradation caused as a result.
