“SCF has rendered significant service in a post-war situation”
Tamilselvan tells SCF Country Head“Save the Childen Fund (SCF) has a long record of service in the Tamil Homeland and has helped the people immensely in its support to the most vulnerable segment of the society, the children, during and after the war and tsunami” said Mr.S.P.Tamilselvan, Head of the Political Wing in a meeting with SCF’s outgoing Country Head Mr. Richard Mawer and his successor Mr.Gregoreg Frankalin Duty today, 8 November 2005 at the Peace Secretariat in Kilinochchi.
At the outset Mr. Richard Mawer thanked Tamilselvan for the co-operation extended by the LTTE in carrying out SCF projects and said that the new Country Head would continue implemenation of projects in consultation with the LTTE and the community at large. The new Country Head mapped out the SCF strategy for 2006 and reiterated the commitment to work for the betterment of the children through livelihood, eduation and nutrition projects.
Mr.Tamilselvan pointed out that the SCF’s role in the Tamil habitats assumes larger dimensions in the context of a people who have suffered untold hardship during the last two decades due to war, its destruction of the social and economic infrastructure, several displacements and loss of breadwinners, all of which having a cumulative effect on the life of children. Encouraging SCF to engage in more projects focussed on vocational and technical education of children, Mr.Tamilselvan assured that the LTTE would always support SCF initiatives to add quality to the life of the children.
