Fishermen protest against SL Navy harassment in ValikamamFishermen of Valikamam south-west Sukumanthurai protest against the continuous Navy harassment which disturbs their day-to-day live and deprives their livelihood.
Fishermen of Sukumanthurai have been protesting against the recently increased harassment. People from this area staged a demonstration on 16th October and handed over their petitions to Mathakal Navy commander. Since their requests have not been addressed yet, they have recommenced their protest. The SL Navy has instructed the fishermen that they can only return to the shore after 6.00am. This inhuman order of the Navy poses a serious threat to the fishermen in the sea. Many fishermen are unable to feed their family due the newly introduced sea pass system. 18 October 2005
