Student demonstrated against Sinhala chauvinism in ThenmarachchiThere was a demonstration in Chavakachcheri, a Tamil town in Jaffna yesterday morning 25th June 2005, accusing the chauvinistic attitude of the Sinhalese against the legitimate aspirations of the Tamils.
The demonstration started in front of the Bus Stand, in which the students burnt the coffin front of the Chavakachcheri Hindu College. At the end of this peaceful demonstration organized by Thenmarachchi Students Union, students issued a statement saying that this demonstration was organized to show the international community the chauvinistic elements never allow for any political settlement for the Tamils and also Sinhala chauvinism is the blockage in meeting the Tamils’ aspirations.
