Tamil students face many hurdles and harassments caused by the military
“The education of the Tamil students in military controlled areas is facing many hurdles created by the military”, said the president of the Tamil Students Federation for Mullaitivu district in his talk at the gathering to mark the Students Uprising Day. He added,
“We can bring out the harassments to and hurdles created for the students by the military to the international community only through student uprising. Education is continuing smoothly in the areas under LTTE administration, especially in Vanni, without fear and harassments. But students in military controlled areas are facing harassments on a daily basis. We are facing many problems today as students. The Sri Lankan government is unconcerned about our problems. We are facing all the problems now under the ceasefire that we faced during the war. Our national leader has created a good structure and has put in place many schemes for advancing our education and growth. Many organizations have heaped praise for these schemes. The occupying force is letting loose many cruel activities on us. We can bring this out to the international community only though this Student Uprising Day. We are gathered today for that purpose. International community should acknowledge this uprising and obtain for us a just solution”.
