“Attack on our cadres is a blatant violation of CFA”
-S. P Tamilselvan“Attacks on our cadres who were carrying out their political work have increased in recent times. Such attacks, continuing to take place in the current confused climate, are a serious threat to the stability of the ceasefire agreement”, stated Mr. Tamilselvan in his letter to the Head of the SLMM regarding the attack over LTTE members in Trincomalee on 10th July 2005.
The full text of the letter is as follows: Yesterday morning at 10.45 pm in Uppuveli district in Trincomalee, the building where our cadres were staying was attacked. More than seven armed persons in a white Hi-ace van with the number plate WP 2049 threw grenades at the above mentioned place and opened fire at the cadres and the civilians who were with them. Two of our cadres including a Senior cadre Dikkan, one member of Tamil Eelam National Auxiliary Forces and one civilian were killed in this incident. Another civilian has been admitted to the hospital with injuries. It is also worth noting that military intelligence officials have warned these cadres prior to this incident. You will know that following the warning by the military intelligence officials the district Political Wing Head lodged a complaint with the SLMM. The incident has taken place only after the military personnel doing their regular checking duties in the area have vacated the area. The white vehicle that carried the
attackers was allowed to proceed without any hindrance by the military through a military checkpoint very close to the location of the incident. The method of attack and the location of attack clearly show that this attack could not have taken place without the knowledge of the Sri Lankan military. The attack has been carried out by the military intelligence wing and the paramilitary groups operating with them. The attack is in total violation of the rules of ceasefire agreement. It is worth noting that on July 8th 2005 in Amparai district one of our cadres Vettikkumaran who was carrying out his political work was abducted by the military intelligence wing. While they were trying to murder him people gathered in large numbers and our cadre managed to escape. Attacks on our cadres who were carrying out their political work have increased in recent times. Such attacks, continuing to take place in the current confused climate, are a serious threat to the stability of the ceasefire agreement. This is causing fear and confusion among the Tamil people. We cannot exercise patience while our cadres and civilians are being killed, maimed and threatened by the military intelligence wing in the military controlled areas. It appears to us that the government and its forces are taking actions to break the ceasefire agreement and to force a war on our nation. We say this because we have repeatedly raised this issue in the past and in spite of this the government is murdering our people and is carrying out a shadow war against us. We appeal to you to take these facts into account and come to a firm and clear decision.
