Four youths arrested by SLA in Chavakachcheri
Four youths were arrested by the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) for no reason as they were traveling on A9 road in Periya Arasadi in the Sankathanai area of Chavakachcheri on Monday morning. The youths were taken to an unknown SLA camp after the arrest.
At about 10:00 am, the youths were stopped by the SLA who bound their hands and legs. The youths were made to stand outside in the sun until 6:00 pm. As the SLA began to put them in their army truck to take them away, the youths’ family members arrived and begged the SLA to release the youths. The SLA did not acknowledge the families’ pleas and continued put the youths in the army truck to take them away. The family members were devastated by this arbitrary arrest and cruelty to their children. Last Friday it was reported that three youths were arrested in a similar manner in Perunkulam area in Chavakachcheri. The youths were blindfolded and taken to an unknown place.
