
Intimidation intensifies by the SLA after Emergency Regulations
-Condemns Human Rights Activists
Human rights activists have condemned that the arrests, harassments and intimidation against Tamils have increased after the SriLankan State imposed Emergency Regulations(ER) by the SriLankan armed forces. The harassments and intimidations are rising up against Tamils in Colombo and NorthEast after the emergency regulations imposed on 13th August 2005.
And also search operations and round-ups have increased in Colombo and the NorthEast. Normal life of the people in the NorthEast has disturbed and tension mounting up by the aggressive activities of the Sri Lankan armed forces in the GoSL controlled areas of the NorthEast. The public are much worried about the current situation as it is gradually returning back to prior to the Cease Fire Agreement. Complaints have been lodged by the public of arrests and intimidations by the Sri Lankan Special Task Force in Amparai, Navy in Trincomalee and Mannar, Sri Lankan Army in Jaffna and Batticaloa. Tamil people rights have been violated and they have been attacked under the emergency regulations which provide special authorities to the SLA and the police. And Tamil journalists have been arrested and imprisoned by using this ER.
