Several CBOs condemn the attack in Selvanayakapuram
Condemnations poured in for the murder of two LTTE
members and two civilians by persons with the
cooperation from the Sri Lankan security forces poured in.
Following is excerpts from the statement issued by the
consortium of Civilian Based Organizations. “Tamil people are mourning the death of four people
including, Dikkan, a the senior LTTE leader. This barbaric
act by the security forces is a ceasefire violation and an
effort to force war on the Tamil people. The entire Trincomalee town is militarised and security
posts are set up in each street. No-one can commit murders
like the Trincomalee murders and escape this security
network. We therefore consider these murders an aspect of
the state terrorism. State should not try to cover this up
with lies. With this act peace has been hung to death. Incidents like this continue to occur in the east and they
are carried out by the security forces with help of other
paramilitary groups. Government is simply watching it. This
shows the disinterest of the government in peace. If Tamil
people are to live in peace and happiness the security
forces must leave the Tamil homeland. This is the only way
to stop incidents like this happening. Government must take
all the responsibility for the outcome of incidents like the
Trincomalee murder”. Following is excerpts from the statement issued by the
Vadamaradchi Federation for National Uprising. “The murders in Selvanayakapuram in Trincomalee is a
brutal act of the Sri Lankan security forces. We want to
bring this to the notice of the international community. International community has come to understand the calibre
of the cadres of LTTE that has taken forward the struggle
for freedom of the Tamil people as its sole representatives.
They also know the justice and sincerity of our struggle. Our people and our National leader have exercised patience
even when there is no normalcy in people’s lives three
years after the ceasefire agreement and even on the face of
murders of our cadres, intellectuals and journalists who
speak the truth. International community must realise that LTTE had been
patient on the face of provocation by the security forces
that is trying to draw LTTE into a war. Tamil people maintained this patience even when a Buddhist
statue was erected under the cover of night in Trincomalee,
the capital of Tamil homeland, to inflame the feelings of
Tamils and start the war. In this same capital city, the security forces have murdered
a senior LTTE leader, Dikkan, and three others who did not
carry weapons even for their own protection. Government must
take responsibility for this traitorous act of the security
forces”. Following is excerpts from the statement issued by the
Consortium of fishermen societies: “We warn that there will be serious repercussions if the
government fails to take action on the Trincomalee murders
of a senior LTTE leader, Dikkan, and three others. The
assassins have come in their vehicle and escaped with
assistance from the security forces. We severely condemn the
action. Government and the military must come forward to
identify the people who committed the murders and take
strong action against them. We pay homage to the LTTE
martyrs who died in the incident”.
