LTTE Hands Over Seven Underage Children to their Parents
LTTE handed over seven underage recruits to their parents
through Fr Karunaratnam, Director of NESOHR, at the NESOHR
office in Killinochchi on Friday April 1st. All the children
are in the 16-17 age group. Fr Karunaratnam spoke
individually to the children about their family to ensure
that they are returning to save homes.
One boy of 16 has been left almost as a servant with another
family since he was 4 years old. The boy stopped attending
school at the age 12. Eventually at the age of 16 he cycled
70 Kilometers to join LTTE. Having learnt about the boy's
background LTTE joined him at the centre run by TRO so that
he could obtain a vocational training. The boy was happily
settled into the training prograame. Although he was handed
over to his father because it was the wish of the father, Fr
Karunaratnam expressed his concern for the boy's future and
urged the boy and his father to continue with the training
that the boy has started. However, the boy's father took him
away.
