Sri Lankan Navy plans to build a new large navy base in civilian landThe Sri Lankan Navy’s plan to build the first naval base in Batticaloa is expected to displace nearly 25,000 people from 5,000 families. The naval base is planned to be located in Punnaikuda Beach, in Eravur. Sri Lanka government officials said the camp will be created to monitor sea activities. Although the ceasefire agreement limits the development of new bases, Sri Lankan forces are continuing with plans.
Tamil-Muslim and Tamil people have expressed their concern of harassment by Sri Lankan forces, as there will be an increased presence of Sri Lankan military in the area. 11 December 2005
