Second Round of Peace Talks in Thailand

The second round of peace talks were held in Thailand and further progress was achieved with numerous agreements being concluded in returning the lives of the people of the north and east to normalcy. Sixth Round of Peace Talks in Hakone - Japan

18 - 21 March 2003
The sixth round of peace talks were held in the resort town of Hakone in Japan. The talks were dominated by the serious ceasefire violation by the Sri Lanka Navy in its sinking of a LTTE merchant vessel in international waters. The gravity of such incidents and the threat to the ceasfire agreement posed by such events were well known to all the parties. Strenthening of SLMM powers and putting in place mechanisms to prevent such events in the sea were considered a priority and a plan of action was put in place.
