Civilian harassment by the SLA still continues
Sri Lankan Army (SAL) harassment, cordon and search operations and intimidation against civilians still continues in the Jaffna peninsula though the GoSL and LTTE have agreed to hold talks on CFA in Geneva next month
SLA conducted a cordon and search operation in Chavakachcheri on Dutch road on 27th January beginning at 6.00 am. Hundreds of SLA soldiers were deployed and the search operation was carried out house by house in that area. The people were in panic. Most of the SLA soldiers are in the streets, in front of the houses and junctions in alert position. The SLA has been checking every vehicle and civilians’ identity cards. Though people expected that these types of harassments will reduce after the visit of the Norwegian Special Envoy, the situation remains without any difference.
