Aggravated robbery by GoSL operated forces: woman murdered, four youths abducted
GoSL operated forces have recently been carrying out aggravated robberies in many parts of the NorthEast. During one incident, a woman was shot dead in Jaffna. In another incident, four youths were abducted in Ampara. These aggravated robberies add to the state of terror in GoSL controlled areas of the NorthEast.
Sathasivam Navalakshmi (32) was shot dead and her father Kasipillai Sathasivam (75) was injured by GoSL operated forces on Athiyadi New road in Athiyady, Jaffna on 29 June at 12.30 am. Navalakshmi and Sathasivam went outside of their home to help relatives next door who were being robbed. Navalakshmi and Sathasivam were called by their relatives when GoSL operated forces broke into their relatives’ home. When Navalakshmi and Sathasivam went outside, the gunmen shot Navalakshmi dead and stabbed Sathasivam. Sathasivam was admitted to Jaffna Teaching Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Their relatives stated that the gunmen stole gold jewelry and money after breaking into their home. Residents stated that on the previous day and also on the day of the killing Sri Lankan Army (SLA) vehicles were driving on Athiyadi New road several times. EPDP camps are known to operate from the Athiyady area. SLMM officials visited the scene of the incident. The Jaffna district judge also took a report of the incident. Meanwhile, in other districts, GoSL operated paramilitaries are conducting similar aggravated robberies. In the villages of Pannankadu and Kolavil of Ampara GoSL operated forces conducted house to house search operations to abduct youths and to steal money. GoSL operated forces forcefully entered the home of Murugan Ramalingam in this area and stole gold jewelry and Rs. 25,000. Four youths were abducted by GoSL operated forces during this search operation.
