Access to Trincomalee town denied to civilians

Sri Lankan military has blocked vehicles including motor bikes entering Trincomalee town. Civilians who go to the town face many difficulties.

There are many government secretariats including Northeast Provincial offices in the town. Employees and the public have to go to these offices daily. Due to difficulties in access to town for their day to day business, people gather in surrounding suburbs. Meanwhile, informed sources say that the Sri Lankan military is planning to move all government offices including District Secretariat to the suburbs.

Continuous shelling from Vavunativu Sri Lankan military camp

Houses and farm land were damaged and live stock was killed by the shelling.

A pregnant woman and three other civilians who were injured in the shelling need to be transported to Batticaloa hospital for urgent medial treatment. Requests through ICRC and other non-governmental organisations to transport these patients have so far been denied by the Sri Lankan military.

There is also scarcity for medicines at Vaharai hospital.
