
The incident in Mannar sea on 28 June
At 11.25 am on 28 June 2006 the Sea Tigers of the LTTE were exercising in LTTE seas off of Mannar district. There was a confrontation between the Sea Tigers of the LTTE and the Sri Lankan Navy that lasted for 55 minutes.
 The Sea Tigers were involved in regular exercises when one Sri Lankan Navy water-jet vessel sped toward the Sea Tigers, the battle broke out. The Sea Tigers took defensive action, damaged the Sri Lankan Navy’s water-jet vessel and it sank. Five Sri Lankan Navy sailors who were in this vessel were killed. Unable to withstand the Sea Tiger attack, the Sri Lankan Navy withdrew and dragged the damaged water-jet vessel with them. An LTTE member was killed in this incident and two other LTTE members were injured.
