
Jaffna civilians under terror of SLA
Civilians in Jaffna continue to be killed and injured by the indiscriminate actions of the Sri Lankan army (SLA) and its armed forces. Yesterday, three civilians were killed and two were injured by shootings in Jaffna.
Balasingam Sujendran (34) and Kanesh Sevakumar (27) were shot dead by the (SLA in Urumpirai, Jaffna on Tuesday 25, July around 3.00 pm. Each victim was riding on his own motorbike when the SLA began firing into the streets after a grenade attack. Additional Magistrate for Jaffna Ms. Srinithi Nandasegaran visited the site of the crime and confirmed the victims were civilians after collecting evidence. SLMM visited the site of the killing as well. Later the same day, GoSL operated gunmen shot and killed Sriskandarajah Lavan (24) in Punnalaikadduvan around 6.00 pm. Lavan was talking with two friends Murukaiah Sivanandan (31) and Kathriththamby Murukesan (27) when the shooting occurred. The two friends were injured by gunfire and taken to Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Residents stated that the gunmen were operating with the SLA.
