SLA launches air strikes
The Sri Lankan air force launched air strikes in Trincomalee and Mullaitivu, creating tension in civilian areas on 26 and 27 July.
As arrangements were underway to open access to Mavilaru, Trincomalee, where SLMM monitors were to meet civilians, the Sri Lankan armed forces began aerial bombing in the LTTE area of Mavilaru from 4.30 to 5.30 pm. Two civilians were wounded in the air strikes and two civilian homes were destroyed. The air strikes disrupted the plans that were being taken to address the Mavilaru water supply issue. The air strikes continued in Mullaitivu near a civilian area in Keppapulavu on 27 July around 9.30 am.
