
Alleged attack on Somawatie shrine
LTTE denies any involvement in the alleged attack on the Somawatie shine in the east on 20 June. LTTE believes this too to be an attack by GoSL operated forces aimed at creating ethnic tensions.
This attack on the Somawatie temple comes following a list of recent attacks which have been blamed on the LTTE by the GoSL all which are denied by the LTTE. The attack in Omadiyamadu, on 29 May, when 13 Sinhala workers were murdered came immediately after the EU ban. GoSL blamed the LTTE and the LTTE denies any involvement in the attack. LTTE believes it to be an effort to discredit the LTTE. The claymore attack on a bus in Welisara, on 6 June, was soon after the LTTE delegation left for the Oslo meeting. GoSL blamed the LTTE and the LTTE denies any involvement in the attack. LTTE believes it to be an effort to discredit the LTTE. The claymore attack on a bus on June 15 in Kebitigollawe when 64 people were killed was immediately after LTTE returned from the Oslo meeting.
